ENDORSEMENT OF TOM CORBETT
FOR GOVERNOR OF PENNSYLVANIA
It is with great enthusiasm and without qualification that the Pennsylvania Automotive Association endorses the candidacy of Attorney General Tom Corbett for the office of Governor of Pennsylvania.
Founded in 1919, the association represents the approximately 1100 new vehicle and heavy duty truck dealers doing business in the Commonwealth. Its members are dispersed throughout each Pennsylvania geographic region and naturally are both Republicans and Democrats. The PAA Board of Directors, similarly drawn from all over Pennsylvania, voted unanimously for this important decision, and the Pennsylvania Automotive Association is proud to be the first professional or trade association to formally endorse Tom Corbett.
PAA has enjoyed and appreciated a long and close relationship with the Attorney General. Early in his tenure as the Commonwealth’s chief law enforcement officer, Tom Corbett demonstrated a respect for the importance of businesses to the economic and social well-being of Pennsylvania. This respect was evidenced in the Attorney General’s reasoned and dedicated approach to performing the duties of his office.
Specifically, Tom Corbett was able to both unwaveringly ensure compliance with the consumer protection laws administered by his office, while demonstrating a willingness to understand the burdens imposed on Pennsylvania small business owners endeavoring to prosper, serve the consumer public, employ fellow Pennsylvanians, and remit their share of tax revenue to the Commonwealth and local governments.
One example of how this understanding benefited both Pennsylvania’s dealers and their customers was the cooperative effort, initiated by the Attorney General’s Bureau of Consumer Protection and PAA, to develop a comprehensive manual on acceptable advertising guidelines to be used by dealers when preparing their advertisements. By working together, PAA’s members were able to know what was acceptable and fair in the eyes of the Bureau and thereby avoid unwittingly breaking state laws in this area.
It is because of Tom Corbett’s integrity and demonstrated ability of keeping a firm sight on his mandated responsibilities to protect the Commonwealth’s consumer while working cooperatively with businesses that PAA believes our Attorney General should be the next Governor of Pennsylvania. PAA’s dealer members, who inherently and historically are also dedicated to customer and public service, share Tom Corbett’s priorities, consider him an outstanding leader, and encourage all voters to help him turn on the power of Pennsylvania.
